Vnukovo Moscow airport – VKO

Vnukovo airport is one of the three major airports serving Moscow, Russia, along with Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo. Located southwest of the city center, it is the oldest and least crowded Moscow airport.

General information about Vnukovo airport

Vnukovo is located 28 km southwest of central Moscow. It is the closest airport to the city centre. Airport has one passenger terminal (Terminal A).

For a better window view choose right side of the plane if you’re flying from Europe, America, Africa or Middle East. Choose left side if you’re flying from Asia or Australia.

Vnukovo airport directions

Vnukovo airport has its own metro station. Signs will lead you to the station. Trains leave every few minutes from 05:30 to 1:00. Journey to the city centre will take about 30 minutes.

Yandex Maps app offers public transport routes, real-time traffic, and public transport stops. It is available for iOS and Android.

Places to Eat in Vnukovo airport

In comparison with Sheremetyevo and Domodedovo, there are very few different cafes and restaurants at the airport.

  • Mu-mu (simple Russian cousin)
  • Kroshka-Kartoshka (baked potatoes with sauces)
  • Shokoladnitsa (cafe)

 

All of those are available in public, domestic and international zones.

Wi-Fi, SIM cards and Payments

In Moscow free Wi-Fi is a standard for most venues. 30Gb data plan costs about 600 ₽ (€6.7) per month. Buy a sim-card in Terminal A at Megagon (green logo) or MTS (red logo). All types of SIM are available including eSIM.

Visa and Mastercard cards do not work in Russia. There are several options for paying for purchases:

  • Apply for a UnionPay card in advance at your local bank.
  • Cash payments in roubles are possible in all venues in Moscow without restrictions and there are many currency exchange offices in the city.
  • A foreign citizen can apply for a MIR bank card in almost any Russian bank.
